EcoGene is a database describing the genes, proteins, and intergenic regions of the E. coli K-12 MG1655 genome and proteome. The primary role of EcoGene is to provide current and accurate genomic datasets including sequences, map positions, functional descriptions, gene names, synonyms, and literature citations. Over 700 start codons have been revised based either on experimental verifications derived from the literature or on various sequence analyses performed in house. Over 60 defective gene sequences are annotated, identifying either pseudogenes or DNA sequence errors. EcoGene data is available as individual EcoWeb GenePages and in table format.
